Greetings in our Lord Jesus Christ!
Thank you for visiting the web pages of St. Benedict's Abbey. We are an Ecumenical Monastic Community within the Catholic Tradition in Bartonville, Illinois.
Empowered by Christ's words, this is our challenge:
"My prayer for all of them, is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father - that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world would believe you sent me'. John 17, 21.
The focus of our work is the reconciliation and unity of Christians. Our beginnings were in 1985 in Puerto Rico. They were full of many challenges, setbacks and upsetting experiences, but our faith in God and in our Mother of Divine Providence and the perseverance in our vocation towards unity carried us on. Benedictine stability, has always kept us focused in the call God gave us on August 15, 1985. For over 25 years of existence, we have maintained our witness to the love of God and that unity is possible. We ask you to unite yourself in prayer with us as we continue our mission in years to come.
